Straight - through


Straight-through cable is used to connect different type of devices.

It is often called a patch cable or an Ethernet cable. The cable that comes in the box with your router is a straight through cable – it is the most common format for network cables.Example:

  • Switch – Router
  • Router - Computer



CROSSOVER

Crossover cable is used to connect same type of devices.
Example:
  • Computer – Computer
  • Switch – Switch
  • Router - Router
